Our client, NWIA Bone, Joint & Sports Surgeons, is seeking a highly capable and experienced Practice Administrator to serve as the operational and administrative leader of a dynamic, physician-led orthopedic practice.

This is a senior leadership role with broad accountability across finance, human resources, clinical operations, strategic planning, and governance—offering the opportunity to shape the long-term growth and health of a well-established specialty practice.

Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint, and Sports Surgeons has delivered orthopedic care across Northwest Iowa and Southwest Minnesota since 1977. The organization provides specialized services in orthopedic surgery, total joint replacement, sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, hand surgery, foot surgery, and fracture treatment.

Its team includes some of the most experienced orthopedic surgeons in the region, supported by advanced medical technology. Care is designed to help patients maintain active, independent lives, with services structured to support individuals and families across all stages of life.

With 11 locations, the practice performs more than 200 surgeries each month and serves over 20,000 patients annually. Ongoing advancements in procedures and equipment have significantly reduced recovery times, allowing patients to return home and resume daily activities more quickly.

About the Position

  • Reports directly to the Board of Directors and Physician Owners
  • Monday- Friday on campus position in Spencer, Iowa
  • Weekly or as needed travel to other locations
  • Ideal for a leader with experience in orthopedic, surgical services, ambulatory settings, or high-volume multi-specialty clinic operations
  • Access to collaboration and administrative support from partner hospitals
  • Direct engagement with senior leadership for mentorship, guidance, and strategic alignment

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee accounting, financial controls, and procurement systems
  • Direct accounts payable operations and prepare year-end, government-required reports
  • Produce monthly financial statements and perform variance and performance analyses
  • Oversee coding, reimbursement policies, and fee schedules in coordination with billing and partner hospitals
  • Negotiate and manage third-party contracts and reimbursement agreements with partner hospitals
  • Lead investment and retirement planning, including management and compliance oversight
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, filing procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and administer compensation and benefits programs
  • Oversee all HR functions, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations
  • Manage payroll operations, including compliance with payroll taxes and reporting requirements
  • Prepare and submit bi-weekly and semi-monthly 401(k) and pension reports

Business & Clinical Operations

  • Facilitate business operations planning and patient flow process design

  • Develop and implement facilities planning and maintenance programs

  • Oversee patient communication systems and monitoring for licensure, credentialing, and recertification

  • Facilitate physician coverage across all practice worksites, including emergency call scheduling

  • Perform all physician licensing and credentialing processes, Planning, Marketing & Strategic Growth

  • Pursue and establish partnerships and strategic alliances

  • Develop and implement community outreach, public relations, and patient relations programs

  • Create and maintain marketing plans to support practice growth, Information & Risk Management

  • Oversee and direct all information management systems to ensure proper data capture and reporting

  • Maintain corporate history and develop record-keeping procedures

  • Assess and procure liability insurance; establish personnel and property security plans

  • Develop and implement quality assurance programs

  • Oversee patient, staff, and organizational confidentiality policies

  • Work with Partners to construct and maintain the governance system 

  • Facilitate and coordinate Partner meetings, agendas, and schedules 

  • Evaluate and continuously improve organizational policies and processes

  • Facilitate staff development and team cohesion

  • Support the physician's understanding of business management, finances, and practice policies
